Dusty had a good night and I had an opportunity to speak to his Neurosurgeon this morning. He warned me this will seem like a slow period of time. It’s not just a cast of “pulling the tubes” as I thought. Rather, it’s a matter of weaning him off all of it a step at a time. At this time, they have the respirator set for pressure only. This is a great! It means he is breathing on his own and that it is just supplying enough pressure to make sure he gets enough air. I was also warned to expect him to develop pneumonia or bronchitis. It almost always happens and they have started antibiotics to be safe.
When I look at Dustin, I see that beautiful young boy that he was and feel pride in the strong young man that he had become. This will take time and patience from all! Keep the faith!

Oh, that is so how I see him still too!! That little boy that used to pop out from behind Carl when they'd come to visit.
